Kevin C Akbar won the Ibrahim Harisnanto Soetopo Memorial Cup 2024, a tournament dedicated to Mr. Ibrahim Harsitanto Soetopo, who is one of the founders of “Aspirasi Delapan,” which was the beginning of the formation of the first young golf player training in Indonesia and also the forerunner to the establishment of the Pondok Indak Golf Academy.
This two-round tournament was attended by 80 professional Indonesian golfers under the PGA Tour Indonesia (PGATI), and this tournament is the 8th tournament organized by PGATI. This tournament was held thanks to the support of REWA & Co., PT Baratama Agung Sentosa, and Praga Jawara Utama, all three of which are companies owned by Mr. Ardi Soetopo, the son of Ibrahim Harisnanto Soetopo himself.
This tournament was utilized as best as possible by the players to show their respective skills. Besides Gading Raya Golf Club being a challenging golf course, the players must also be good at reading the game here because it is very rare for Indonesian pro golfers to hold tournaments here.
The match itself was very exciting; the golfers’ points were very close to each other. Colored by heavy rain on the first day, the golfers had to be smart in maintaining their physical and mental health. Because the green speed changed quickly.
Kevin C. Akbar, who in round 1 was quite satisfied in second place under George, in the final round this time he played very well, continuing his performance in round 1 yesterday, he was able to collect 4 biridies without boogie in this final round, so he was entitled to be the champion with a total of 10 underpar points.
“Actually, I didn’t do the practice round yesterday, and the last time I played here was 2 years ago. I was surprised by the changes here; there are several holes that are quite challenging, especially the par 3 holes, because the distance between the holes is quite far,” said Kevin.
In the first round George Gandranata led very well the maturity of this player in reading the game was clearly visible yesterday unfortunately, in the second round he failed to maintain his performance, he could only occupy second place with a total of 8 underpar.
Meanwhile, Benita Kasiadi was quite satisfied in third place, even though she played extraordinarily in the final round by collecting 8 birdies and 1 boogie, but it was not enough to catch up with Kevin’s points. On the final leaderboard, Benita could only collect a total of 7 underpar.
