Jakarta, 6 August, Nitithorn Thippong (THA) won the Mandiri Indonesian Open 2023 which was held at Pondok Indah Golf Course, with a total score of -18, Nitithorn beating Scott Hend (AUS), Steve Lewton (ENG), and Lee Chieh-po (TPE) with a total score of -16 in second place.
The game got very exciting towards the end of the 18th hole. Nitithorn, Scott Hend, and Lee Chieh-po were all tied at -18, with Scott Hend being 1 stroke ahead of Nitithorn and Lee Chieh-po. Too bad Scott Hend got a double bogey on the last hole, and so did Lee Chieh-po. So that Nitithorn is enough to win this tournament with par.
“The course here is very good but very tough, especially the wind here, which is very strong. Yesterday was very difficult for me, but today the wind is more friendly, so today I am more relaxed, but I made a lot of putting mistakes, maybe around 16 greens”. Niththorn said
So this title will be Nitithorn’s third major title after winning The DGC Open presented by Mastercard and International Series Singapore last year. That way, Nitithorn is entitled to a prize of $90,000.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Hansel Hari (a) (INA) is the golfer with the best scores with -13, ahead of his seniors, such as Jonathan Wijono, Kevin Akbar, Nasim Surahman, and Elki Kow. And Gabriel is also entitled to get the Best armor in this tournament. Getting -5 on the last day is a huge achievement for an amateur player.
“The green here is not only thick but also slippery, but I like a course with smooth green so the ball rolls better,” said Gabriel.
