Ryder Cup 2020 results, scores: USA leads standings over Europe after strong Day 1

Day 1 of the 2021 Ryder Cup ended on a high note for Team USA, which leads Team Europe 6-2 heading into Day 2.

Team USA started Friday by dominating the foursomes portion. In its three victories, it never allowed a match to make it to Hole 18. Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, who holds the Ryder Cup record for most victories, captured the only Team Europe victory as they beat Ryder Cup veterans Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.Ryder Cup – Day 1 ReviewRyder Cup – Day 1 ReviewPauseNext video0:00 / 0:00SettingsFull-screen

The second half of the day brought closer matchups as two matches went to the 18th. Bryson DeChambeau and Scottie Scheffler’s match against Rahm and Tyrell Hatton was the first to go to 18 and ended in the first tie of the day. Both teams earned a half point with the result. Rahm remained the only undefeated European player (1-0-1).

The last match of the day — Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas vs. Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood — was tied heading into 18 and finished tied.

Day 2 will consist of foursome matches in the morning followed by fourball matches in the afternoon. The pairings will be announced before the teams tee off.
