Jakarta, 01 Sept Steve Lewton (ENG) Wins the 2024 Mandiri Indonesian Open, a victory that was not easy because it had to be obtained with great difficulty by doing 2 playoffs against Sampson Zheng (CHI) and Aaron Wilkin (AUS). In the first playoff all golfers got even par scores, then in the second playoff, Sampson and Aaron got even par and Steve got a birdie, so Steve was entitled to lift the Indonesian Open trophy this year.
Actually Steve could have won this tournament faster, because on the last hole he was already 2 under par ahead of other competitors, namely Sampson Zheng and Aaron Wilkin, bad luck he got on the last hole, instead of finishing easily he got a Double Boogie on the last hole, so it had to be finished with Playoffs twice. Steve himself in this final round got 7 Birdies, 2 Boogies and 1 Double boogie or 3 under par, or 16 under par from a total of four rounds of this tournament. When asked by journalists whether you have prepared yourself to win this tournament “Actually I have no expectations for this tournament, last year I was ranked second and hoped to play well, but before leaving for Indonesia I trained more intensely than usual” said Steve Lewton.
In second place were Sampson Zheng (Chi) and Aaron Wilkin (Aus) who had to admit Steve’s greatness in the playoff, both of whom managed to get a total of 16 unde rpar points until the last round of this tournament. Sampson also produced 3 under par today with 4 Birdides and 1 Boogie, while Aaron who played extraordinarily in the first and third rounds only got 2 under par on the last day.
Indonesian golfer Peter Gunawan (INA) had to be satisfied in 54th position with his compatriot Gabriel Hansel Hari (INA) who won the title of best amateur player in 2024, collecting a total of 2 underpar until the last day of the Mandiri Indonesia Open 2024 Tournament held at the Damai Indah Golf PIK Course.
