Jakarta, August 31. Damai Indah Golf Course is quite hot today, but it does not reduce the interest of the Mandiri Indonesian Open 2024 spectator to come to the PIK Course to support their favorite golfers, plus in this third round, there were two Indonesian representatives who managed to pass the cutoff. With very hot weather, the wind was also quite fast during the day, making many golfers experience challenges, especially regarding wind calculations.
But it was not a problem for the two Australian golfers, Travis Smyth and Harrison Crowe. In this third round, they both got very good results, namely 7 under par, like Travis Smyth, who tee off in the morning at 7:41 am, even though on the second hole he got a bogie. After that, he made up for it with 8 birdies, especially on the last hole, where he got 5 birdies in a row in the last 5 holes. Likewise, Harrison Crowe on hole 1 managed to get an Eagle, although he got a Double Boogie record on hole 9, but he managed to cover his mistakes by adding 5 birdies in the last 5 holes, so today he got a total of 7 underpar from 1 Eagle, 8 birdies, 1 Double Boogie, and 1 Boogie.
While the top of the leaderboard was led by Aaron Wilkin (AUS) with 14 under par with a total of 199 strokes, he continued his good results after in the second round his place at the top of the leaderboard was taken over by Sampson Zheng (CHN). Aaron managed to get 6 birdies and 2 bogies with 4 underpar points in this third round, enough to make Aaron return to the top of the leaderboard temporarily. In second place there are 4 golfers who produced the same points, namely 13 under par from a total of 200 strokes during 3 rounds, Ho Yu-Cheng (TPE), Ervin Chang (MAS), Sampson Zheng (CHN), and Steve Lewton (ENG).
Steve Lewton himself managed to get 5 birdies, 1 Eagle and 1 Double Boogie. When we asked what happened so that he got a Double Boogie on Hole 13 then immediately got an Eagle on Hole 14, Steve answered, “On hole 13, I hit the ball to the fairway and it fell into the bushes, then I hit it to the left towards the green; the position was not ideal when I tried to approach the pin; luck was not good, so I had to get a double boogie; the next hole I made a good drive and it fell 40 yards from the pin, and then I put it in, and I was happy,” said Steve Lewton.
The two Indonesian players, Peter Gunawan (INA) and Gabriel Hansel Hari (INA), got slightly different results. Peter himself got quite good points with 5 underpar from 7 birdies and 2 boogies, so that until the third round he collected 7 underpar points from a total of 206 strokes. While Hansel in the third round got even par points from 2 birdies and 2 boogies. It is interesting to wait for the final results of these two players in the final round tomorrow, because besides having to compete with other golfers, they must be able to overcome the pressure from the audience who always follow them throughout the 18 holes.
