Jakarta, November 03 Richard T. Lee finally became the champion of the BNI Indonesian Masters 2024. Like last year, Gaganjeet Bhullar managed to wire to wire in this tournament. For information, the term wire to wire is when a player manages to place himself at the top of the leaderboard during the tournament.
In today’s final round, he was in the champion flight with Bubba Watson (USA) and Ahmad Baig (PAK). Instead of putting pressure on Richard, these two players were left behind on the leaderboard. In the 3rd round yesterday, Bubba managed to collect 7 underpar so that he continued to put pressure on Richard T. Lee, but in this final round he could not maintain the rhythm like yesterday.
Apart from Richard T. Lee, who played very well, there were Chang Wei-lun (TPE), Phachara Khongwatmai (THA) and Kieran Vincent (ZIM), who tried to catch up with Richard’s points, who had led far since the first nine holes, but Richard always focused and maintained his rhythm until the end of the round. With 4 birdies in the first 9 holes, making Richard quite far ahead, before the suspension occurred, and after the match restarted, Lee just played it safe; even though he got a double boogie on hole 16, no other player could take over the top of the leaderboard until the end.
“Actually, I’m quite nervous today. Apart from me playing with a 2-time major champion, the atmosphere here is also extraordinary, but I’m grateful to be able to maintain this advantage until the end.” Lee Said
Chang Wei-lun played very well in this final round; with 8 birdies without a boogie, he shot to second place; unfortunately, he couldn’t catch up with Lee. With this, he collected a total of 19 under par, 4 strokes behind Lee. Likewise, Phachara Khongwatmai, with 8 birdies on the day.
Kieran Vincent, who in the 3rd round yesterday was expected to usurp Lee’s dominance, was also unable to do so just like Phachara, he could only collect a total of 18 under par points during this tournament.
With these results, Lee managed to win a prize of $360,000 as the first winner of the BNI Indonesia Masters 2024
